RESOLUTION NO.2026 - <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES <br />BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO HOUSE JOINT <br />RESOLUTIONS 2017 AND 203, AND 20=9; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO <br />TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS <br />RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE'. <br />WHEREAS, House Joint Resolutions 201; and 203, and 2205 (collectively, the <br />"HJRs") propose constitutional amendments that would significantly reduce or eliminate <br />non -school ad valorem tax revenues for municipalities; and <br />WHEREAS, these measures would have a substantial adverse fiscal impact on the <br />City's ability to fund essential services and infrastructure; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that these proposals threaten long-term <br />municipal financial stability; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interest of its residents, <br />visitors and stakeholders to oppose the HJRs. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Expression of Opposition. The City Commission hereby expresses its <br />opposition to the HJRs. <br />Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit <br />copies of this Resolution to the Florida League of Cities, the President of the Florida <br />Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and the Governor of the <br />State of Florida. <br />Section 3. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized <br />to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. /' , <br />Section 4. Effective Date.
