RESOLUTION NO.2026 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTIONS 2017 AND 203, AND 20=9; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE'. WHEREAS, House Joint Resolutions 201; and 203, and 2205 (collectively, the "HJRs") propose constitutional amendments that would significantly reduce or eliminate non -school ad valorem tax revenues for municipalities; and WHEREAS, these measures would have a substantial adverse fiscal impact on the City's ability to fund essential services and infrastructure; and WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that these proposals threaten long-term municipal financial stability; and WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interest of its residents, visitors and stakeholders to oppose the HJRs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Expression of Opposition. The City Commission hereby expresses its opposition to the HJRs. Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to the Florida League of Cities, the President of the Florida Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and the Governor of the State of Florida. Section 3. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. /' , Section 4. Effective Date.
