F
C,rt 4F 5VN r
City of Sunny Isles Beach
18070 Collins Avenue
Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160
(305) 947-0606 City Hall
(305) 949-3113 Fax
MEMORANDUM
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners
VIA: Stan Morris, City Manager
FROM: Fabricio Volpi, Public Works Director
DATE: March 19, 2026
RE: Gateway Pedestrian Bridge Elevator Enclosures
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
REASONS:
It is recommended that the City approves the Gateway Pedestrian Bridge enclosures.
The City utilized the Broward County pre -qualified contractors list to solicit quotes for this project. The
Invitation to Quote on this project and to participate in the mandatory site -visit was distributed to
thirteen (13) Contractors from the pre -qualified list. Two Contractors participated in the Invitation to
Quote, MBR Construction, Inc. and Shiff Construction & Development, which resulted in the award to
the lowest bid, Shiff Construction & Development, INC in an amount of $207,000 plus a 15%
contingency ($31,125) for a total amount not to exceed of $238,625.00. The second bid submittal was
for $250,000, excluding contingency.
The primary objective of the project is to protect the elevators from exposure to the elements.
Specifically, the improvements are intended to reduce rainwater intrusion into the elevator pits during
storm events, which can accelerate deterioration of mechanical components and significantly reduce
the operational lifespan of the elevator equipment. By mitigating water infiltration, the project will help
preserve the equipment and improve long-term reliability.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The scope of work includes the removal of the existing eyebrow "canopy" and the construction of an
extended one matching the front facade, demolition of the existing pavers and replacement with
brushed concrete, installation of six steel columns supported by helical pile, installation of impact -
Item Number: 91
236
