The proposed amendment would make it a requirement for all
community and commercial swimming pools to have an address sign posted in a prominent area. This
lettering on the sign should be at least four (4) inches in height and be visible from all areas of the pool
deck in the daytime and nighttime.
The state of Florida led the nation in 2025 with a new record of 110 child drownings for children under 5
years of age. Though most of these drownings occurred in single-family residences, many also occurred
in public swimming pools. In addition to child drownings, there are adult drownings that have occurred
in shared pools, as well as other emergencies around pool decks. While many people know their
addresses, a lot of children and visitors do not. When an emergency occurs, it is important to know the
address of where the incident is taking place.
The City of Sunny Isles Beach has many shared pools in buildings and many visitors that are not aware of
the address where they are staying. The proposed amendment is a cost-effective way to help reduce the
response time in case of any emergencies taking place around shared pool areas and hopefully increase
better outcomes.
Item Number: 8.A
125
