Cfrp OF SUK
City of Sunny Isles Beach
18070 Collins Avenue
Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160
(305) 947-0606 City Hall
(305)949-3113 Fax
MEMORANDUM
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners
VIA: Stan Morris, City Manager
FROM: Susan Simpson, Deputy City Manager
DATE: April 16, 2026
RE: Approval of Additional Funding and Revised LFA with FDOT for the
Replacement of the Historic Atlantic Isles Bridge
RECOMMENDATION:
This item is presented for your consideration.
REASONS:
The Historic Atlantic Isles Bridge has been slowly deteriorating for years while being monitored by both
the City and FDOT. In 2023, the City entered into a Locally Funded Agreement (LFA) with the Florida
Department of Transportation (FDOT) for a repair project that would be led by FDOT. The LFA provides
that the City is responsible for 25% of the funding of the entire project and FDOT funds the other 75%.
The agreement in 2023 was for $1,023,409.00 which the City paid as is required to keep the project
moving.
Through the design process, it was determined that repairs would not suffice as a solution for this
historic bridge. Therefore, the project scope has changed to include a full replacement of the bridge
while maintaining the historic elements by repurposing the coral rock forthe aesthetic features.
This new scope requires additional funding by both parties. The city's portion is now estimated at
$1,665,180. With $1,023,409 already paid, the balance of $641,771 must be committed to FDOT for this
project and an updated LFA must be executed.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The project is included in the City's Capital Improvement Program budget. The additional required
funding is requested through a budget amendment. Approval of this item is contingent upon approval
Item Number: 9.N
500
