This station specifically services areas within
southern Miami-Dade County. The existing Field Station consists of multiple buildings, all of which
had reached the end of their service life and no longer met the capacity needs of the SFWMD.
Phase 1 of the project, which is now complete, consisted of adding new Maintenance Building (B-
488), new Admin Service Building (B-489), new Electrical building (B-490) and new fueling facility
as well as partial site development. The new buildings, totaling 17,802 SF, include office space, fleet
service bays, structure maintenance service bays, storage areas for land management and canal
levee, emergency generator and generator room, restrooms, locker rooms, asphalt restoration,
abandonment of existing facility septic tanks and connection to city sewer including construction of
a lift station, and new fuel tanks and fuel dispensing pumps.
Phase 2 will complete the master planning for the site and include:
»Demolition of existing buildings B-40, B-60 and B-148.
»Construction of a new Administrative Office Building (B-507); new Service Garage Building
(B-506), including new welding areas; new vehicle service port/wash station (B-508),
incorporating new equipment; and new dock & launching area.
»Removal of the failing rip rap at the canal bank and hardening of the canal bank to provide
future use and access to the SFWMD-controlled C-103 canal.
»Meet SFWMD’s standard security level, including fencing, controlled gate access and
surveillance systems.
»New asphalt and concrete pavement to accommodate equipment maneuvering clearances.
