CURTIS + ROGERS <br />DESIGN STUDIO, INC <br />With a background in environmental studies and history, Roberts expertise is applied <br />through assessing landscape design issues and solutions through a historic lens; <br />specifi cally looking at the temporal evolution of urban landscapes, the relationship <br />between socioeconomic conditions and sustainable design practices, and ultimately <br />understanding the ways in which communities interact and connect with their <br />surroundings, both natural and built. <br />Robert develops the foundational research that goes into desgining a resilient landscape. <br />From gathering and synthesizing historic information on a site, to mapping data on <br />current contextual conditions, his work provides the basis for developing a landscape <br />design that seamlessly weaves into the surrounding environment while also providing <br />services that enhance the resiliency of urban spaces. <br />As a skilled writer, Robert also assists in the development of narratives that translate the <br />technical language frequently used in the fi eld of urban design into a more palatable <br />format; useful when conveying complex ideas to broad audiences. Through this, he <br />seeks to bridge divide between the designers and users of urban landscapes. <br />As a lead in community engagement for Curtis + Rogers Design Studio, Robert Curtis <br />brings a hands-on and empathetic approach to connecting people with place. He <br />guides the public outreach process for major park and resilience projects—organizing <br />bilingual workshops, surveys, and on-the-ground observations that reveal how spaces <br />are truly used and valued.
