and construction administration personnel are engaged at the appropriate times to deliver beautiful, resilient, and maintainable projects that are within the City’s budget and timeline. At the outset of each task, we will collaborate with City staff to establish project objectives, scope, schedule, budget, and key deliverables. At each initial project kick-off meeting, the project scope, schedule and personnel role are established. Following this meeting, a series of coordination meetings or conference calls- with the client- are established to review the work in progress, and to ensure that the project is proceeding according to the scope, desires of the client group and in accordance with the established schedule. Meeting notes are taken and distributed to all project participants, via email. Our team structure combined with heavily involved principals provides a distinct advantage in managing scheduling challenges. In our project the USACE Back Bay Study, the involvement of the project manager and availability to step in during last minute meetings gave the opportunity to provide much needed insight to the United States Army Corps of Engineers team on the role of landscape architects in designing for resiliency through green infrastructure. To ensure successful project execution, our Project manager maintains regular communication with City staff through progress meetings, status reports, and timely responses to requests. Rather than relying on multiple layers of management, our managing principal remains closely connected to every project and is available to step in when construction issues arise or community stakeholders need direct engagement. An example of this is with Morningside Park a project in collaboration with the City of Miami where we are co-prime consultants. The immediate access to senior leadership has been able to accelerate problem-solving, improve coordination among project partners, and help prevent minor issues from becoming schedule- impacting delays. For this project the design called for large plant material with character to offer immediate shade upon the park re-opening. When the landscape contractor was running into issues sourcing the material at the specified size and quality, quick coordination from the project manager meeting to review the submitted material allowed for quick decision making to reject the material and to have our team arborist step in to assist with sourcing the material to meet the design intent. The overall result of our management structure has been a more responsive project team, faster decision- making, and greater confidence for clients and stakeholders alike. In addition, the Curtis + Roger’s project manager will organize the work into a series of critical tasks. These tasks are evaluated as to the level of effort required, the available data and the anticipated scheduling impacts. This work effort is distributed to all team members, and tracked periodically – with completion dates, anticipated delays or additional tasks needed. The project manager will continually update the task list and track the scope and schedule modifications. Our project Miami Beach Promenade Feasibility Study & Masterplan in collaboration with the City of Miami Beach, a project which we are the prime consultant on, our task tracking allowed the submission of key project deliverables to be submitted ahead of schedule which allowed the City more time for internal review and additional public engagement efforts. Consequently, when additional meetings were requested for public engagement and presentation to City commission, the time saved from earlier phases allowed the project to continue in accordance with the original schedule on time and on budget.
