GEI Consultants | City of Sunny Isles Beach | RFQ 26-07-01 44 <br />Asharoken Seawall Rehabilitation Project <br />Village of Asharoken | Northport, NY <br />Starti ng in 2021, GEI began assisti ng the Village of Asharoken with <br />emergency repairs to its severely degraded seawall that provides protecti on <br />to Asharoken Avenue, the sole source of egress for a large part of the <br />Asharoken community and the enti rety of the Town of Hunti ngton Eaton’s <br />Neck community. Following this initi al work, GEI partnered with the Village <br />to secure the grant funding to complete design of the seawall’s replacement. <br />As part of this grant funding eff ort, GEI prepared numerous federal grant applicati ons to <br />complete the design and permitti ng of the seawall’s replacement, including a FEMA Hazard <br />Miti gati on Grant Program (HMGP) Project Scoping/Advanced Assistance Applicati on. The <br />Village was awarded more than $1,200,000 to support design, permitti ng, and bid support <br />to reconstruct the seawall. GEI also helped prepare an applicati on for capital improvements <br />funding through Congressman Suozzi’s offi ce to repair and reconstruct the seawall. The Village <br />received a $1,000,000 award of federal funds through the NYS Department of Transportati on to <br />complete these improvements. <br />Following grant award, the Village issued a Request for Proposals to retain a qualifi ed waterfront <br />engineering fi rm to design and permit the seawall replacement. GEI responded and was <br />awarded the project in 2024 to complete design, permitti ng, future grant assistance, and bid <br />solicitati on of the seawall replacement. Additi onally, at the request of the Village, GEI was <br />tasked with the design of a beach nourishment along with three (3) groin structures fronti ng the <br />seawall replacement. The northernmost groin structure was located near an infl ecti on point in <br />the shoreline which was backed by a coastal bluff . Due to this, GEI opti mized the groin design to <br />reduce the quanti ty of armor stone required, saving ti me and budget during constructi on. This <br />would provide a dry beach buff er fronti ng the seawall replacement to provide enhanced storm <br />protecti on and resilience to the Project Area. <br />GEI is currently working to progress the nearshore nourishment and groin design. Permit <br />applicati ons have been submitt ed, and several permits have already been received. The design <br />of the project is ongoing. GEI has also begun working with the Village to apply for future federal <br />constructi on funding and perform benefi t-cost analyses to help fund the physical replacement <br />of the seawall. <br />DATES <br />2021-Ongoing <br />Emergency repairs and initi al <br />assistance began in 2021. <br />Design, permitti ng, and bid <br />solicitati on are ongoing. <br />The project is progressing <br />according to the planned phases, <br />with design and permitti ng <br />underway and constructi on <br />pending future funding. <br />FEES <br />Original Budget: The Village was <br />awarded over $1.2M through <br />FEMA and $1M through NYS <br />Department of Transportati on <br />for design, permitti ng, and <br />reconstructi on.
