Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting January 15,2015 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
at least improve the lighting, start planning for the longer term issues in dealing with a whole
host of other things that you have mentioned here. Beautification of William Lehman
Causeway is a whole issue in itself that he won't take the time to go into now. You don't
know what was under the William Lehman Causeway, it was a yard just for FDOT, it is the
Public Works Yard for the City, and there is a whole host of things that we can deal with in
smaller meetings and keep the dialog going. He has always been attuned to the issues of
Golden Shores going back to that little litany of history.
Mayor Scholl said he has a number of public speaker cards, and what he would ask is if you
are going to add something new then come and speak, as the presentation we just had was
very comprehensive, it was well organized and very articulate, which we appreciate.
Rumiana Grozdanova said that Golden Shores had a gate but no longer. The issue is that
people walk their dogs there in the community from surrounding condominiums, and they do
not clean up after their dogs, and so she would like to have a gate as they had before. Larisa
Suechin, current PTA President at the School, and the President of Signs of Oleta Park, said
they have a flooding issue there. Her house does not flood when it rains because they bought
an elevated home, but she sees many of the streets flood to the point where she is afraid that
water will get into her Escalade. Also, because of her volunteerism, she wants to recognize
the fact that although she respects and appreciates everything they have done by taking this
initiative, she wants to make sure that it is inclusive of all the residents in Golden Shores and
somehow we can come up with some kind of system like an Advisory Committee that
includes all of Golden Shores and not specifically just for the Association.
Marianna Talalaevsky said one of the biggest issues is the street lighting. Also, she said she
has been getting many phone calls that not everyone was included to join the Association.
There are 220 homes and everybody should have been informed. The next election for the
Association is not for three (3) years, and she would like to suggest that the Association
change the name to Golden Shores Advisory Committee. We have a lot of renters that have
been there a long time, and so the Association should not be just for owners but also the
renters. Elizabeth Trattner said security for the residents is a big concern.
Jerry Joseph asked how 181' Street became Dezer Way, and he noted the big trucks idling
early in the morning on that street with diesel fumes. Commissioner Levin said we passed an
Ordinance, with second reading tonight, if there is going to be a lane closure it requires a
permit, and so would a lane closure be considered like a truck being in the same location for
longer than 15 minutes, then they would have to have a permit for it. Willi Gudat said the
boats speed by and if you can please move that sign 500 feet further south then we wouldn't
get the waves over the seawall. Also, why do they have to put the trash in the garbage can,it
should be recycled [landscaping scraps,etc.]. Michael Polikar said three weeks ago he had a
fire in the back yard from the electrical poles. One of the branches hit the top pole and
according to FPL that pole was about 25,000 watts and he was away on vacation along with
his family. His sister was staying at his house and fortunately she was in the backyard at the
time and the fire ignited within 30 seconds, and the Fire Department was called and they put
out the fire. In May 2014 he had another problem with the electrical poles, one of the
branches fell on the pole and the wire went into the neighbor's pool and it ignited sparks and
15
