Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting January 15,2015 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
that it would cause in your neighborhood. And so, she just wanted you to know that the
Commission is very conscious of keeping the sanctity and integrity of Golden Shores.
Mayor Scholl said it is great to see folks get organized and to echo Commissioner Aelion's
comments,be inclusive as you can be because it is hard when you come to the City and then
we get dissenting voices, it is very difficult because we get torn and then we don't have a
clear direction. And so, reach out to all your neighbors and he knows it is difficult but he
thinks they are on a good track and are starting in a good direction. And as you can see, even
before you came here tonight we had already started to move it down the road a little bit on
some of the key issues, and we thank the City Manager and his staff for that.
Commissioner Levin said she does not see why since it is a voluntary association, why those
homeowners who are not yet members of the Association would not become members so that
way when you have your meetings in accordance with your Articles and your Bylaws and in
accordance with the legal advice that your counsel gives you, that you can all vote together as
a group like you do in a Condominium Association. Nobody is paying dues, right, and so she
is not familiar with your documents but it doesn't seem like it would be harmful if people
just put their name on your list. That way they get on your email list and everybody gets the
notices that you send. Jacqueline Branigan said that they put flyers out and when we came in
to Commissioner Levin first, you said look by all means, you were just amazing, get
everyone together, this can't be about one person, this has to be for the entire neighborhood,
whatever you want we will sit down and discuss it and talk to our City Manager and we will
go forward. We divided the flyers and went down the different streets, and today she went
down five streets with flyers to bring people out and so this is not the more the better this is,
the more people we have,if we had 200 people here this would be a very successful evening.
12B. Add-On:
Discussion regarding a Citywide Traffic Analysis.
Action: [City Clerk's Note: See additional action under Item 4A.]Commissioner Goldman
thanked all the residents of Golden Shores for their participation, comments and input. She
is quite impressed because as a resident of the south side of the City her traffic issues and
traffic concerns as a commuter every day are somewhat different, and so it is of great value
and interest to hear your comments and concerns. There are many traffic concerns all over
the City, and in fact, that is really the reason for this request. Her feeling is that we have
never really had a comprehensive evaluation or analysis of our traffic situation throughout
the City. While projects go up there are traffic studies that accompany new projects or new
development but her request is really for a much broader inquiry and analysis of traffic
issues. That includes subjects like hot spots, bottlenecks, clogs at certain times of the day,
clogs at certain intersections, pedestrian vs. vehicular traffic, ways that the development of
projects create bottlenecks through loading and unloading, and all the areas that we know.
As we go through this development cycle and continue to grow, the traffic situation is
exacerbated, it is not going away. She read from an article in the Miami Herald of a Wish
List for 2015 regarding traffic in Miami-Dade County. It is about too many people, too many
cars and not enough mass transits, traffic congestion is horrible and getting worse. We all
have traffic issues, and we all know what it is like getting stuck on Collins Avenue, what it is
like on Memorial Day Weekend, or when the boaters come in wanting to go to Haulover.
17
