Title VI Program Plan <br /> Background <br /> Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of <br /> race, color, or national origin in programs and activities receiving Federal <br /> financial assistance. Specifically, Title VI provides that"no person in the United <br /> States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from <br /> participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination <br /> under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance" (42 U.S.C. <br /> Section 2000d). <br /> It is the policy of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, under Title VI of the Civil Rights <br /> Act of 1964; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; Age Discrimination <br /> Act of 1975; Section 324 of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1973; Civil Rights <br /> Restoration Act of 1987; and related statutes and regulations, that no person <br /> shall on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability/handicap, <br /> or income status, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, <br /> or be otherwise subjected to discrimination or retaliation under any federally or <br /> non-federally funded program or activity administered by the City or its sub- <br /> recipients. <br /> The City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed to ensuring that no person is <br /> excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of its transit services on <br /> the basis of race, color, or national origin, as protected by Title VI in Federal <br /> Transit Administration (FTA) Circular 4702.1.B. <br /> II. Purpose <br /> The purpose of the City of Sunny Isles Beach's Title VI program is to establish <br /> and implement procedures that comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of <br /> 1964, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, the Americans with Disabilities <br /> Act of 1990 (ADA), as well as other related federal and state statutes and <br /> regulations. These procedures have been adopted to conform to Federal <br /> Transit Administration (FTA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) <br /> regulations, as well to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)guidelines. <br /> The City does not tolerate discrimination in any of its programs, services or <br /> activities; and will not exclude participation in, deny the benefits of, or subject <br /> to discrimination anyone on the grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age, <br /> disability, religion, income or family status.
