86 City of Sunny Isles Beach New Facility Qualifications for Architectural Design Services
The Clinical Research Building at
the University of Miami Leonard M.
Miller School of Medicine is a high
rise complex comprised of three
components: 336,000 SF of research
and dry lab spaces, a parking garage
for 1450 vehicles and a 60,000 SF
Wellness Center nestled above the
garage structure. The research tower
is composed of 15 stories of flexible
open floor plates. The use of a raised
“access” floor provides the distribution
of mechanical, electrical and telecom-
munication systems, one of the first to
be used in south Florida.
The new two story 60,000 SF Wellness
Center is accessed directly from the
parking garage or from a glass sky
bridge from the 9th level of the main
building. A floating grand staircase
and a two-story atrium area accentu-
ate the main lobby. The overall design
highlights wellness and healing through
the subtle use of color and materials,
and further emphasized by a fiber-
optic illuminated water feature below
the cantilevered staircase. A juice bar
on the north side of the main entrance
overlooks the medical campus, and
provides an informal meeting place,
which will serve members as well as
tenants from the main building.
CLIENT
Univeristy of Miami
Richard K.
