90 City of Sunny Isles Beach New Facility Qualifications for Architectural Design Services
CAYMAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL MULTI-PURPOSE BUILDING
A component of the Cayman International
School; the Multipurpose Building or
ARC (Arts and Recreational Center)
is a combined Fitness / Wellness
Center and Dining Facility serving
both the School and the surrounding
planned community of Camana Bay.
The ARC is connected to the Academic
Campus of the Cayman International
School by means of a covered walkway
that is essentially the Campus Main
Street linking Classrooms, Labs, Library
and Administration Spaces. Totaling
approximately 12,000 square feet,
the ARC includes indoor basketball
and volleyball courts, retractable
bleachers, an indoor dining facility
for 500 and equally an indoor
performance space for 500. Associated
kitchen, lockers and restrooms wrap
the double height recreation hall.
The sloping standing seam metal roof
of the ARC creates a double-height
glass wall facing Southeast affording
abundant natural light and from the
bleachers, view across the soccer pitch
and adjacent Academic Campus.
The material palette for the ARC
takes its cues from the Academic
Buildings; smooth stucco, glass mosaic
tile accents and the natural metal
finish of the standing seam roof.
*Personal experience of Lawrence
Kline, Project Designer while at
AECOM (Spillis Candela DMJM)
CLIENT
Cayman Shores Development Ltd.
Justin Howe
89 Nexus Way, Camana Bay
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
t 345.640.4000
f.345.640.4001
LOCATION Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
COMPLETION DATE 2009
CONSTRUCTION COST Confidential
SIZE 70,000 square feet
AWARDS
Honorable Mention for
Architecture Design, AIA
Miami
