94 City of Sunny Isles Beach New Facility Qualifications for Architectural Design Services
The Government Center Building of
Key Biscayne is composed of 33,158
SF of program that includes police and
public works related functions. Spillis
Candela and Partners was selected
as the Architect and Engineer for the
Administration and Police Buildings.
The Administration and Police building
is designed around a two-story land-
scaped and paved courtyard connect-
ing the pedestrian circulation from the
main McIntyre Street building entrance
with a pedestrian garage entrance to
the south. The courtyard functions both
as a public gathering space and as a
means to provide natural light and air to
the internal facing office areas.
Spillis Candela also provided planning
for the 144 car parking garage, which
would carry the same architectural
elements of the buildings. The project
was master planned and designed as a
low-scale campus environment, open
and accessible to all citizens.
The center is located adjacent to the
Village’s main public park and was
designed to complement the other ma-
jor civic components (fire station and
community center) of the Government
Center campus.
*Personal experience of Lawrence Kline,
Principal, and Carlos Vilato, Project Designer
while at AECOM (Spillis Candela & Partners).
CLIENT
Village of Key Biscayne
Jud Kurlancheek
88 West McIntyre Street
Key Biscayne, Florida 33149
t. 305.365.5511
e. jkurlancheek@keybiscayne.fl.gov
LOCATION Key Biscayne, Florida
COMPLETION DATE 2002
CONSTRUCTION COST $6.6 million
SIZE 33,158 square feet
VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNEGOVERNMENT CENTER
