UNIQUE PRIVATE PUBLIC PARTNERSHIP CREATES ICONIC CHILDREN'S MUSEUM AND COUNTY LIBRARY
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Through an innovative and unique public/ private partnership, Young At Art Museum and Broward County
Library is a groundbreaking example of the immense benefits of an integrated, sustainable design process.
This publicly funded project is the result of a rare partnership and forward- thinking, client -led initiative which
will serve children and families today and for generations to come.
The building's iconic shape, with tilted perimeter walls and a butterfly roof, is visible from the adjacent
expressway. The roof, a reflective white TPO selected because of its high "Solar Reflective Index" value, acts
as the building's fifth facade and makes the project's hot water solar panels visible from the expressway.
Oriented with solid concrete facades and small punctured windows on the East -West, and long facades with
continuous high performance storefront glazing on the North and South, the overall heat gain is reduced and
natural light penetration is maximized.
PROJECT DETAIIS SUSTAINABLE ATTRIBUTES
Owner: Broward County Library
Size: 56,5oo square feet, $13.3 Million Dollar Budget
Building Type: Tilt -Wall Concrete, New Construction
LEED Rating System: LEED for New Construction 2009
LEED Award Level: Gold Certification
Year Certified: August 2012
Architect: AECOM and Glavovic Studio
Architect:AECOM and Hammond &Assoc,
Contractor: Pirtle Construction Company
Civil Engineer: Craven Thompson &Assoc.
Landscape Architect: Curtis + Rogers Design Studio
LEED Project Administrator: The Spinnaker Group
Commissioning: The Spinnaker Group
Previously Developed Land
Optimized Evergy Use
Double Pane High Efficiency Glazing System
High Efficiency Lighting
Centralized Water Chiller System
Use of Motion Sensors, Time Clocks &
Photocells to Control Lighting
THE.: GROUP
P: 954.347.0967 F: 954.217.3614
www.TheSpinnakerGroupinc.com
6 93
