Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting June 18,2015 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida <br /> 11. MOTIONS <br /> None <br /> 12. DISCUSSION ITEMS <br /> 12A. Discussion regarding the Skate Park by Vice Mayor Jeanette Gatto. <br /> Action: Vice Mayor Gatto said the Skate Park has been open for four and a half years now <br /> for the teens. Since school is out, the Park is now open an additional two hours, from 1:00 <br /> p.m.to 7:00 p.m. every day. Sound travels up and goes into the balconies of the condos. She <br /> lives in Winston Towers 300 and she brought her iPad to let the Commission hear the noise <br /> that is being generated. The City took over management of the Skate Park in October 2014. <br /> From October 2014 to March 2015 most of the users of the Park are non-residents: 694 <br /> residents and 1,300 non-residents. She suggested that the Skate Park be temporarily closed <br /> until it can be moved to Haulover Park. <br /> Mayor Scholl said he is not in favor of closing the Park because once it is closed, it is <br /> permanently closed. He and the City Manager have been working with Miami-Dade County <br /> Parks Director Jack Kardes on a Plan to move the Skate Park to Haulover Park. City <br /> Manager Russo said he met with Mr.Kardes a couple of weeks ago and he had said he would <br /> get a Plan to him in two weeks and so he should be receiving it soon. Cultural and <br /> Community Services Director Susan Simpson said Jack Kardes called her regarding the <br /> Plans, and so it is being worked on by the County's planners. <br /> Commissioner Levin asked who would pay for that Skate Park to be moved to Haulover? <br /> Mayor Scholl said we would,however maybe we can get other communities and the County <br /> involved and possibly share the cost. She asked how much it cost us to construct it, and <br /> former Mayor Norman S.Edelcup said it cost$350,000.00. Commissioner Levin asked what <br /> we will do with that facility once the Skate Park is closed, and Mayor Scholl said that will <br /> need to be worked out but it may become something with an outdoor art area. <br /> 13. CITIZENS' FORUM: REQUESTS, PETITIONS & OTHER COMMUNICATIONS <br /> 13A. Joseph Lovaglis regarding the Local Bus Rules. His son is ten years old and goes to <br /> Summer Camp. Since he and his wife work in Delray Beach they cannot take their son to <br /> Camp. The first week his son took the City's shuttle bus with no problems. The second <br /> week he went to Ocean Rescue Camp and when he went to get on the bus,the driver told him <br /> he was not allowed on the bus due to liability and left him stranded there on the street. There <br /> is nothing on the website restricting people from getting on the bus. Mayor Scholl suggested <br /> that he talk to the Cultural and Community Services Director Susan Simpson. <br /> 13B. Keith Oliver regarding saving the Haulover Tennis Courts. He said he has a signed <br /> Petition to save the six(6)public tennis courts at Haulover Park. Miami-Dade County Parks <br /> Director Jack Kardes sent him a map of Haulover Park that had the tennis courts on it. <br /> Sunny Isles Beach has no tennis courts. He wants Haulover Park courts to be improved,and <br /> to create a Sunny Isles Beach Tennis Team. There is a resident of the City who was Doubles <br /> 13 <br />
