SUMMARY MINUTES City of Sunny Isles Beach Historic Preservation Board Meeting Government Center, 18070 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach Tuesday, August 12, 2008, 7:00 p.m. 1. Call To Order By Chairperson: Action: Chairperson Joe Masters called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The following Committee Members and City Officials were present: Committee Members: City Officials: Joe Masters, Chairperson Mayor Norman S. Edelcup Cassey Gabor, Vice Chairperson City Manager A. John Szerlag Shari Blank Assistant City Attorney Fernando Amuchastegui Phillip Chernoff City Clerk Jane A. Hines, CMC Trina Duluc Mark Glicksman Absent Member: City Liaison: Bonita Shoki (out of town) Richard C. Schulman, City Historian 2. Announcement by Chairperson Joe Masters of Appointment of Cassey Gabor as Vice Chairperson of the Historic Preservation Board. Action: Chairperson Masters announced that Cassey Gabor was appointed Vice Chairperson by Mayor Edelcup on June 19, 2008. 3. Approval of Minutes for the April 15, 2008 Historic Preservation Board Meeting: Action: Phillip Chernoff noted a correction at the top of page 4, first paragraph, last sentence, "Phillip Chernoff suggested housinQ putting the memorabilia in Heritage Park." Philip Chernoff moved and Shari Blank seconded a motion to approve the April 15, 2008 Board meeting summary minutes, as amended. The motion was approved by a 6-0-1 (Bonita Shoki absent) vote. 4. Update/Report of City Manager A. John Szerlag on the Reconstruction and Design of the Sunny Isles Beach/Newport Pier. Action: City Manager A. John Szerlag reported on the status of the Pier, and handed out an email/status report on the project from the City's Consultant Edwin Mojena of Marlin Engineering,and presented a rendering of the project. He said a construction bid package will be prepared in December 2008, the design finished by the end of this year, and in January 2009 advertise to go out to bid for construction of the Pier. Hopefully the award of the Contract and Notice to Proceed will be done by June 2009, with construction completed by June 2010. 5. Report of City Historian Richard C. Schulman on the Installation of the Driftwood Pelican in Pelican Community Park.
