SAMSON OCEANFRONT PARK <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES <br />TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS <br />TREE RELOCATION 02910-3 <br />1.08 <br /> <br />WARRANTY: <br />A. All relocated plant material shall be guaranteed for a period of one year. <br />1. For relocated trees or palms that die, replace their canopy area with new trees in accordance <br />with the requirements of the Department of Environmental Resource Management <br />(DERM) <br /> <br />B. Repair damage to other plants and lawn or construction work within the relocation area during tree <br />transplantation at no cost to the Owner. This includes, but is not limited to, damage to curbs, walks, roads, <br />fences, site furnishings, etc. <br /> <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br /> <br />2.01 <br /> <br />MATERIALS: <br />A. Topsoil, planting soil, mulch, staking, and guying, shall be as specified in section 02950. <br /> <br />B. Fill materials shall be as specified in Section 02950. <br /> <br />2.02 <br /> <br />FERTILIZER: <br />A. Minor Element Mix shall be “Micro Mix” liquid as produced by Lesco, Inc., to be diluted at a rate of 1 <br />gallon per 100 gallons of water and applied at a rate of 50 gallons per 1000 square feet of canopy, or “Iron <br />Roots” applied as per manufacturer’s instructions, or approved equal. <br /> <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> <br />3.01 <br /> <br />PREPARATION PRIOR TO TRANSPLANTING: <br />B. Crown Pruning <br />1. Crown pruning shall be completed a minimum of 14 days prior to root pruning. Pruning technique <br />shall be as follows: <br />a. Broadleaf Trees shall be trimmed by thinning the crown only, and not reducing the crown <br />dimensions, unless directed by Landscape Architect. Interior suckers growth and dead wood <br />shall be first removed, followed by selective pruning of branches and limbs. Limbs that cross <br />through the tree crown shall be removed before other limbs are removed. Pruning shall not <br />destroy the form of the tree. All cuts shall be made flush, smooth and contoured to the tree <br />limbs or trunk. <br />b. Sabal Palms: Remove all seed pods and all fronds, as in a hurricane cut. Trim all boots to a <br />clean and regular pattern, no more than 3" from trunk. <br />c. Coconut palms: Remove all fruits, seed pods and all but the 7 youngest fronds. Tie <br />remaining fronds with untreated cotton twine or burlap straps. <br />d. Washingtonia Palms: Remove all seed pods and lowest fronds as required to leave the 12 <br />newest. Trim all boots to a clean regular pattern. <br />e. Royal Palms: Remove all seed pods and all fronds hanging below the horizontal plane. <br /> <br />2. Repair any existing injuries to tree including cavities and machinery marks. <br /> <br />3. Notice shall be given to the Landscape Architect 48 hours before pruning is carried out. <br /> <br />B. Watering and Fertilization <br />1. Clear the root ball area of all foreign material, trash, etc. to expose undisturbed soil. <br /> <br />2. Trees shall be deep injection fertilized within 24 hours after crown pruning, a minimum of 10 days
