SAMSON OCEANFRONT PARK
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
UNIT MASONRY 040500-13
C. Split faced concrete masonry unit lintels shall be formed with a "Form Block" lintel block, filled
with 5,000 psi concrete and reinforced as shown on Structural Drawings. For 8" thickness walls,
spans up to 8 '-0" may be supported with a 16" deep lintel consisting of a lintel block with a form
block above, reinforced with one #7 bar top and bottom and full height 5,000 psi concrete fill.

3.11

FLASHING/WEEP HOLES:
A. General: Install embedded flashing and weep holes in masonry at finish floor, shelf angles, lintels,
ledges, other obstructions to the downward flow of water in the wall, and where indicated on
Drawings.

B. Prepare masonry surfaces so that they are smooth and free from projections that could puncture
flashing. Place through-wall flashing on sloping bed of mortar and cover with mortar .Seal
penetrations in flashing with adhesive/sealant/tape as recommended by flashing manufacturer .
Tumed -up and sealed end dams shall be provided at all flashing terminations. All laps and
terminations must be fully sealed, minimum lap of 2 inches.

C. Install flashings as follows:
1. At lintels and shelf angles, extend flashing a minimum of 4 inches upward into masonry at
each end to forma dam. Extend flashing from exterior face of outer wythe of masonry,
through the outer wythe, turned up in the cavity a minimum of 8 inches, and then through the
inner wythe to within 1/2 inches of the interior face of the exposed masonry wall. Where
interior surface of inner wythe is concealed by furring, carry flashing completely through the
inner wythe and turn up approximately 2 inches, unless otherwise indicated.
2. At heads and sills, extend flashing as specified above unless otherwise indicated, but turn up
ends not less than 2 inches to form a pan.
3. Interlock end joints of ribbed sheet metal flashings by overlapping ribs not less than 1- ½
inches or as recommended by flashing manufacturer and seal lap with elastomeric sealant.

D. Install weep holes in the sill and head joints in exterior wythes of the first course of masonry
immediately be]ow and above embedded flashings. Space weep holes per Drawings or 16 inches
o.c. unless shown otherwise.

E. Install reglets and nailers for flashing and other related construction where shown to be built into
masonry.

F. Do not cross bed mortar at flashing areas.

3. 12 FILLING CELLS:

A. Where indicated at reinforced cells, fill cavities full height with concrete or grout. Install grout in
lifts not to exceed 48 inches. Ensure complete filling of cells and proper clearances of
reinforcement is maintained. Confirm that all cells are filled from top to bottom.

B. Where required for fire rating of concrete masonry units, install fire-resistant material to
completely fill open cells full height of wall, or to a minimum height of 36" above the adjacent
roof height. Provide verification openings at bottom of cells to ensure material fills cells
completely from top to bottom. Plug cells upon confirmation of material filling using a material
compatible with the fire rating of the wall.

C. Where concrete masonry units are used as backup for exterior wall, fill all open cells with foamed-
in- place block insulation. App]y in lifts not to exceed 12 ft., providing confirmation that all
cavities are filled from top to bottom.

3.13 REPAIRING, POINTING, AND CLEANING:
