Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting October+6 23.2003 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida
10. MOTIONS
None
11. DISCUSSION ITEMS
11A. A Presentation by Calvin, Giordano & Associates, Inc. regarding the Reconstruction of
1721'd Street.
(Deferred 9/18/03)
Action: City Manager Russo and Shelley Eichner of Calvin, Giordano & Associates,
Inc., made a digital graphic presentation on the reconstruction of 172nd Street. City
Manager Russo noted that the Miami-Dade County Sewer Department will, at their own
expense, replace the sewer line from North Bay Road. He also noted that this project is
being added into the Capital Plan to be moved on this Fiscal Year.
11B. Verbal Report of City Attorney regarding Zoning Consultant.
Action: City Attorney Dannheisser reported that Miriam Maer, Esq.,has been retained
as the City's Special Counsel on Zoning matters, and that we will pass the cost along to
the Developers. She noted that Ms. Maer was the Assistant City Attorney for the City of
Miami, handling zoning, the Parking Authority, towing issues, etc., and that she is now
available in her retired status for consultant work.
City Attorney Dannheisser answered the questions that Commissioner Iglesias asked on
why we needed another consultant.
11C. Add-On
Discussion regarding the Sales Trailers on the vacant property by the Arlen House.
Action: City Manager Russo asked for direction from the City Commission regarding
complaints that he has been getting on the vacant lots by the Arlen House, because the
developer has Sales Trailers on that property. He thought it would serve the City better
to require a landscape plan and the completion of the sales trailers in an aesthetically
pleasing plan approved by the City, its consultants and our Landscape Architect,to have
that set up but not to be used until such time as an approval is granted. Mayor Edelcup
felt that it was better to have that property developed in a landscaped sales trailer mode
then to leave it vacant and full of weeds. Planning and Zoning Administrator Jorge Vera
noted that it would have to be approved through a public hearing as a conditional use,
and that it would take about two months. He noted that they have filed for an application
but that there is no development approval for that service trailer to be put on that land.
13
