<br />02480 - 12/12 <br />3.13 GRASS MAINTENANCE: The CONTRACTOR shall comply with the following <br />maintenance guidelines for seeded and sodded areas. <br />A. Maintenance Period: Begin maintenance immediately after each portion of grass is <br />planted and continue for eight weeks after all grass planting is completed. <br />B. Maintenance Operations: Water to keep surface soil and germinated grass moist. <br />Repair washed out areas by filling with topsoil, liming, fertilizing and seeding. <br />Replace mulch on banks when washed or blown away. Weed by local spot <br />application of selective herbicide only after first planting season when grass is <br />established. <br />C. Fertilization: On areas that have been seeded, apply 30lb N per acre as soon as <br />grass seedlings have emerged; apply an additional 50 lb N per acre 50 days later. <br />On areas that have been sodded, apply 30 lb N per acre two weeks after sodding; <br />apply an additional 50 lb N per acre one to two months after the first application. <br />3.14 GRASSING INSPECTION FOR ACCEPTANCE: Eight weeks after the start of <br />maintenance on the last section of completed grass and on written notice from the <br />CONTRACTOR, the ENGINEER will, within 15 days of such written notice, make an <br />inspection to determine if a satisfactory stand has been produced. If a satisfactory stand <br />has not been established, another inspection will be made after written notice from the <br />CONTRACTOR that the grass is ready for inspection following the next growing season. A <br />satisfactory stand is defined as a grass or section of grass that has: <br />A. No bare spots larger than six inches in diameter. <br />B. Not more than five percent of total area with bare spots larger than three inches in <br />diameter. <br />C. Not more than ten percent of total area with bare spots larger than two inches in <br />diameter <br /> <br />END OF SECTION <br />
