As a problem is identified, Corradino evaluates the problem area to
determine if traffic volumes or speeds exceed county livability standards. Often,
® areas must be looked at in the broad perspective because traffic problems are
® frequently caused by a problem down-stream from the area. Once livability
® issues are established, the appropriate devices are selected to remedy the
® situation. Traffic-calming devices come in many varieties. Selecting the
® appropriate device is crucial because misplaced infrastructure can often
® exacerbate the problem. It is also important to work with the neighbors to
® assure that they are comfortable with the selected device. Upon approval from
® the city administration and neighbors, Corradino seeks concurrence from Miami-
® Dade County, who seeks to maintain control over all but the most local streets.
Corradino has done analysis and designs for these projects in Palmetto Bay,
® Doral, Cutler Bay, Hialeah, Miami, and others. The ability to communicate the
costs and benefits to the community is critical in attaining consensus on these
efforts. Corradino's experience has shown that, while most traffic calming is
controversial to :begin with, the surrounding community and neighbors are
happy with the results often within 90 days after implementation.
• PARKING STUDIES
Corradino has worked with parking for many of its municipalities. Recently, the
® firm completed a parking generation forecast for the feasibility of a municipal
parking garage and transit-transfer center in Palmetto Bay. For Miami Beach we
® performed the Intermodal Feasibility Study, where we examined the location,
cost and parking gene?ation of a municipal intermodal center. Also for Miami
® Beach, Corradino performed one of the largest parking studies in the region,
® inventorying and analyzing all public parking in the city. This was a monumental
® data collection and analysis effort. Corradino performed manual occupancy
® counts at least three times per day during the week and weekend for every
® public parking space (on street and off street), and then worked to develop
® parking policy for this critical infrastructure. Corradino has designed parking as
® well as estimated the cost to develop facilities.
0
0
0
0 moo A r% " 4-3
