This step is the most technical since it involves the
Imaximum use of our engineering skills and the use
of our cutting edge tools for an optimal design
t . \tom1
0- .. //% The entire process of MEP planning and design
Ig* .r r- We, o3 o requires not only imagination and conceptual
I
rr thinking but also sound knowledge of practical
oOnp tui aspects. such as recent design codes and statutes.
'11111M1511‘
.F & ■ewe backed up by ample experience. intuition and
I % 1 pII1tVIM engineering judgment.
alovso
te
;.,:.,
a • ! It is emphasized that any structure to be constructed
I must satisfy the need for efficiency for which it is intended and shall be durable for its desired life
span. Thus. the MEP design of any structure is categorized into following two main types:
I I. Functional design
2. MEP design
I FUNCTIONAL DESIGN: The most important function of the MEP design is to support the use of the
structure for its intended use. Depending on the structures use. the MEP design will vary
significantly. This is why it is extremely important during the Strategy phase to define in detail the
Ifunctions and use of each component of the proposed facility.
MEP DESIGN: Once the functions have been properly defined. then it is up to the professional to
Iproperly engineer the facility to support the use.
The process of the Mechanical/Plumbing Engineering involves the following stages:
II. Study the architectural plans in order to obtain the necessary data to provide the Load
Calculations. The engineer must have received feedback from the owner as to his specific
Irequirements for environmental comfort or even for unique temperature requirements for
special equipment.
I 2. Institute energy saving measures in the design.
3. Coordinate with other design professionals for conflicts.
4. Specify equipment and materials that are within the owner's budgetary constraints.
IDetail. drawings and preparation of construction documents.
6. Provide Quality Control and corrections as may be needed.
ICITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH
RFO No. 12-0402
I
