® traffic calming features, and landscape enhancements. The
® project also involved the redesignation of US 1 to bypass downtown, and the transfer of downtown streets from
® FDOT control to City control. Kimley-Horn coordinated all utility relocation and upgrades to take advantage of the
street reconstruction. Partnering with FDOT was critical to this project to ensure that minimum design criteria were
® met and that the City's goals and objectives were also upheld. We also assisted the City with identifying multiple
® funding sources for the improvements. The improvements have now been constructed.
• In February, 2005 a group of nationally-recognized representatives from the Federal Highway Administration
• (FHWA) visited this project. Focusing on intersection safety techniques, they noted the use of raised
• intersections, brick patterns, and narrowing of streets throughout the project. All of these techniques help
create a more "city like" feel to the two state corridors.
