Maas, Chief of Police <br /> DATE: 2/18/2016 <br /> Donation of Surplus Police Vehicle to Crime Stoppers of <br /> RE' Miami-Dade County <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Commission approve this Resolution <br /> authorizing the City Manager to donate a surplus police vehicle (a 2005 <br /> Ford Explorer S.U.V.) to the Miami Dade Crime Stoppers Agency, who <br /> is in dire need of this donation. <br /> REASONS: <br /> The City and its police department regularly "swaps out" or transitions <br /> its vehicle fleet as the vehicles age.After vehicles have surpassed their <br /> usefulness to the police department in any capacity, they are sold if they <br /> have value or donated to a worthy cause in need. <br /> Crime-Stoppers of Miami Dade is an integral part of the law <br /> enforcement community by working in conjunction with all agencies to • <br /> help solve crime of all types. Crime-Stoppers relies almost exclusively <br /> on the support and generosity of law enforcement agencies for in-kind <br /> or monetary donations to continue their work. Crime-Stoppers is in need <br /> of an older model vehicle of this specific type for transport of <br /> equipment, materials and resources to accomplish their tasks. <br /> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br /> The city police department is exchanging out the above described <br /> 61 <br />
