Russo, City Manager
FROM: Fred A. Maas, Police Chief
Michael A. Grandinetti, Police Captain
DATE: 3/17/2016
Approval to Expend Partial Forfeiture (LETF) Funds to
cover travel expenses to send the police Honor Guard to
RE: the National Police Memorial in Washington, D.C. and for
the purchase of one (1) iPad tablet and seven (7) iPad •
tablet cases for our investigative services unit, in an
amount not to exceed $5,779.28
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the expenditure
of partial Law Enforcement Trust Funds (LETF), previously awarded to
the Police Department as the result of investigative participation in
forfeiture and seizure cases. These funds are permissible by law to be
spent for the purchases of police equipment, community policing
efforts and other law enforcement activities. It is requested that we be
permitted to utilize up to $5,779.28 of said funds on deposit for such
purpose.
REASONS:
Our Investigative Services Unit was recently awarded a grant for the
purchase of six iPad tablets to enhance our investigators ability to have
more case information with them while out of the office, following up
cases. Unfortunately, with the limited amount of grant funds available,
we were one short of providing all detectives with an iPad. With the use
of LETF monies, we would purchase one additional iPad and seven
iPad cases.
63
