APPLICATION No. 5 <br /> CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH COMPREHENSIVE PLAN <br /> RECREATION AND OPEN SPACE ELEMENT AMENDMENTS <br /> 1. Add a new Policy 1 D. as follows: <br /> The City shall coordinate with property owners to seek to provide and maintain <br /> environmentally compatible public beach access points at 1/4 mile (minimum) intervals by <br /> 2030, and to ensure that public access to or enjoyment of the public realm of the beach <br /> is not inhibited by existing or planned beachfront development. <br /> 2. Add a new Policy 1 E. as follows: <br /> Policy 1 E. The City shall reevaluate the feasibility of providing a boardwalk or linear <br /> path parallel to the beach in order to increase access and provide additional pedestrian <br /> and bicycle mobility options to relieve traffic on Collins Avenue, and of <br /> extending/expanding the Baywalk to provide a linkage to the beach. <br /> 3. Amend Policy 3F. as follows: <br /> Policy 3F. Provide for balanced system of municipal parks providing open space and <br /> recreational facilities at scales of community, neighborhood, block and small scale urban <br /> spaces that meet the following activity needs for the full range of age and needs groups: <br /> a) Passive open space that provides for individual and group enjoyment of <br /> unstructured activities such as walking, sitting, contemplation, relaxation and <br /> observation; <br /> b) Resource Based Open Space that provides access to and interaction with water <br /> bodies, shoreline environments, ecological and botanical environments, and <br /> interpretive facilities that educate users about natural systems; <br /> c) Active open space that provides facilities and space for structured play; sports; <br /> shared use paths for running, cycling and skating; playgrounds; group activities; <br /> community wide gatherings for events and performances, and special facilities for <br /> the disabled, and; <br /> d) Special Facilities that support recreational activities for the full range of age <br /> groups, such as community centers, senior centers, cultural facilities, museums, <br /> youth centers, amphitheaters and concert venues. <br /> A-25 <br />
