Maas, Police Chief <br /> DATE: 5/19/2016 <br /> Approval to Expend Partial Forfeiture Funds (DOJ)for <br /> the purchase of six(6) Police Vehicles, Two (2) Police <br /> RE: Motorcycles and all associated equipment, as well as a <br /> prorated portion of costs to replace the Police /City Hall <br /> telecommunications system, in an amount not to exceed <br /> $347,305.48 <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Commission approve the expenditure <br /> of partial Federal (DOJ) Forfeiture Funds, previously awarded to the <br /> Police Department as the results of investigative participation in <br /> forfeiture and seizure cases. These funds are permissible by law to be <br /> spent for the purchases of police equipment and other law enforcement <br /> activities. It is requested that we be permitted to utilize up to <br /> $347,305.48 of said funds on deposit for such purpose. <br /> REASONS: <br /> The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department actively participates in an <br /> FBI / HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Initiative Group that <br /> conducts numerous ongoing proactive investigations and has a need <br /> for the attached listed equipment. <br /> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br /> One of the benefits of participating in and providing personnel into high <br /> intensity narcotics investigations is the sharing of confiscated proceeds <br /> 311 <br />
