BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)
In an effort to revitalize one of the City’s most depressed retail areas, the Community Redevelopment Agency hired Bermello Ajamil,
Inc. (B&A) to develop a new public open space plan for the walkway and roadway areas adjacent to the retail development. The
B&A landscape design for the two block area was coordinated with the new streetscape design for the frontage roadway and the
redesign of the building architecture fronting the public open space. Although parking located along the rear of the retail area
would have been preferred, after extensive meetings with store and property owners, the decision was made to retain parking in
front of the buildings as well as enhanced the rear parking. Although the net result was less parking directly in front of each store, the
result has been a significant transformation of the retail area. Stores have returned to the development and struggling retail sales
have dramatically improved with the completion of the new design.
STANDARD FORM 330 (6/2004)
25.
