E I ! E .. .. E ! I I I I I:' .", I I I I I I I Changes in land Area The City of Sunny Isles Beach covers an area of 1,686 acres; which 736 acres consists of water. Therefore, the actual land area is 950 acres. Development began during the 1920s and it was not until 1997 that the City incorporated. Since the adoption of the City's Comprehensive Plan in 2000, there have been changes in the amount of vacant parcels, which have been developed as residential housing. Also, there has been a land use change which has added more park space in the amount of 6 acres. This has impacted other land use categories that have lost some acreage to parks, as indicated in Table 3.3. Map 2.2 on page 34 identifies the City's Future Land Use designations. The City of Sunny Isles Beach anticipates amending its Land Use Plan Map in light of the recent site acquisitions for parks and open space.
