How the PTC (police Tracking Computer) Works.
The PTC consists of a r~dio receiver, directional antennae computer and
display head which are installed in a police car and used to identify and track
a LOJACK equipped stolen vehicle.

While on routine patrol, police officers have- their PrC's turned on. Whena.
patrol car comes within range of an activated LO.JACK transmitter, the-
officer will h~ ~ audible tone from the tracking computer. The officer wiD-
also receive a 5 character alphanumeric display on the PTC that identities. the'
LOJACK transmitter which. is broadcastiD.g the homing signal. The 'officer'"
then radios .the dispatcher and requests an identification of the LOJACK-
signal. In the event the officer picks up mort than one signal, he can "lock"
onto whichever. signal he-wants and call for backup to pursue the other -stolen
vehicles. The dispatcher enters the _code .into the .law enforcement computer~-
and is then able to tell the officer:
1) a compl~te description of the vehicle,
2)anypertinent information about the theft.
The frequency of the homing . signal is automatic8ny increased to once per
second. .

'U:sing the rela~ve-,bearing indicatoJ; on the -trackirig computer,- the :officet:-iS-'
able to steer his car in the direction -of the-stolen vehicle. Using the signal..
'::Strengthindicator, distance to the. target can be determined. In 'some
instances, the officer may not want to approach the vehicle right away, but
rather establish surveillance. -

Once the stolen vehicle is recovered, the officer notified his dispatcher,. who
in turn makes a computer entry returning the LOJACKtransmitter --to the
"listen" mode.

By combining the LOJACK retrieve (LJU). with the LOJACK Prevent, Alert
or Alert Plus, consumers can get a'TOTAL PROTECTION package against
the amateur/joyriding thief.

LOJACK POLlCE PRODUCTS BROCHURE REVISED _ June 9, 1999

PAGE #8
