<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000- 22..S" <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO APPLY FOR, RECEIVE AND EXPEND ADDITIONAL <br />FUNDING FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT POSITIONS UNDER A <br />COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES ("COPS") <br />PROGRAM, SPONSORED BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT <br />OF JUSTICE; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach has an active and growing policing funit that <br />is seeking to protect the health, safety and welfare of its residents; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has determined that there is a need to hire three <br />additional officers to increase community safety; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice has additional funding available for <br />the hiring of law enforcement officers under a community policing program and has invited the <br />City to apply for the additional funding; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Police Department intends to use the funding to hire three additional <br />officers to expand its community policing unit. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL VEn BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to <br />apply for, receive and expend funds for the hiring of three additional police officers under the <br />United States Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Program. <br /> <br />Section 2. Salary Requirements and Retention Plan. For the first three years, the <br />Department of Justice will pay a maximum of Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00) or <br />Seventy-Five Percent (75%) of the three officers' salaries and the City will pay the remaining <br />twenty-five percent (25%).
