<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2001- 31../~ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 2001-339, THAT <br />HAD SUPPORTED A BABY TEETH STUDY KNOWN AS THE "TOOTH FAIRY <br />PROJECT," RELATING TO RADIATION AND PUBLIC HEALTH; <br />ESTABLISHING A CITY COMMISSION POLICY OF NOT ADOPTING ANY <br />RESOLUTION THAT GOES BEYOND THE SCOPE OF MATTERS DIRECTLY <br />AFFECTING THE HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE OF THE RESIDENTS OF <br />THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in May our City received a copy of Resolution No. 50-01-11198 from the <br />City of South Miami, supporting a baby teeth study known as the "Tooth Fairy Project," relating <br />to a study of levels of radiation and public health, including 16 pages of reports with supporting <br />documentation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, after reviewing the City of South Miami's Resolution on this topic, one of <br />our City Commissioners requested that a similar resolution be placed on the City Commission <br />agenda for consideration; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on June 21, 2001 the City Commission unanimously voted to adopt <br />Resolution No. 2001-339, supporting a baby teeth study known as the "Tooth Fairy Project" <br />relating to a study of levels of radiation and public health; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach has been asked to reconsider its adoption of <br />Resolution No. 2001-339, based on the assertion that the supporting documentation which the <br />City of South Miami and our City Commission relied upon was misleading; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City is not able to ascertain which facts accurately report the levels of <br />in-body radioactivity, which might help to understand if additional studies should be performed <br />to determine if there might be a link between environmental radiation and cancer, especially in <br />young persons; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to avoid incidents of confusion resulting from <br />considering resolutions on topics that go beyond the scope of matters directly affecting the City <br />of Sunny Isles Beach; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to rescind Resolution No. 2001-339, that had <br />supported a baby teeth study known as the "Tooth Fairy Project;" and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to establish a City Commission policy <br />regarding the adoption of any future resolutions that go beyond the scope of matters directly <br />affecting the City of Sunny Isles Beach. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: <br /> <br />Clerk's Resolunon\R2001-_ Rescinding R2001-339, Tooth Fairy Project Amended <br /> <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
