<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2002- 4-25" <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, INCORPORA TING <br />RECITALS; EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE CONTINUING EXISTENCE <br />OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS ORDINANCE THA T PROHIBITS <br />DISCRIMINA TION BASED ON SEXUAL ORIENT A TION, AS ADOPTED BY <br />MIAMI-DADE COUNTY'S BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS IN <br />1998; OPPOSING THE SEPTEMBER 10, 2002 BALLOT QUESTION THAT <br />WOULD REPEAL THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY HUMAN RIGHTS <br />ORDINANCE NO. 98-170; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County's success as a thriving international business and <br />banking center, and its success as an international tourist destination is a result of accepting the <br />diversity of both our local residents and the global clientele we serve; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach agrees with the <br />business principle that an individual's ability should not be measured with regard to their race, <br />color, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, marital status, familial <br />status, or sexual orientation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed to the concept and practice of <br />equal employment opportunity; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the policy of the City of Sunny Isles Beach to recruit, hire, train and <br />promote into all job levels, employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, <br />color, age, sex, national origin, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Miami-Dade County have scheduled <br />a countywide Special Election to be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2002, for the purpose of <br />submitting to the voters of Miami-Dade County the question of whether Miami-Dade County <br />Ordinance No. 98-170, relating to prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation in <br />housing, credit and finance, public accommodations, and employment, shall be repealed; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed to the traditional principles of <br />equality and fairness for all citizens of Miami-Dade County embodied within the Miami-Dade <br />County Human Rights Ordinance, and opposes practices of intolerance and discrimination; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach shares a concern that a <br />repeal of the Miami-Dade County Human Rights Ordinance would project a very negative and <br />divisive image to the world that could adversely impact the economy of Miami-Dade County. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY <br />COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. <br />reference. <br /> <br />Incorporation of Recitals.
