Heyman <br />Representative, District 105 <br />1100 NE 163rd Street, Suite 303 <br />Nonh Miami Beach, Florida 33162 <br />(305) 919 -1888 <br />(305) 919 -1890 FAX <br />April 18, 2002 <br />RE: CPIC: Windstorm Legislation <br />Dear City Manager, Mayor & Council: <br />210 House Office Building <br />402 South Monroe Street <br />Tallahassee, Florida 32399 -1300 <br />(850) 488 -1028 <br />I am writing to encourage your city on behalf of its citizenry and property owners, to <br />contact Governor Jeb Bush through letter, fax or phone call; regarding your support of <br />CS /SB 1418: Citizen Property Insurrance Corp awaiting the Governor's signature to <br />become law. <br />This legislation, passed by the Florida House and Senate contains all key issues Senator <br />Ron Silver and I have been championing for over two years: Windstorm Rate <br />.Accountability, <br />Creating the new Citizen Property Insurance Corporation and achieving federal tax- <br />exempt status (saving $80+ milljon), this legislation also contains our issues, important to <br />our communities, that you have helped champion and lobby for: <br />• Eliminate proposed 40% premium increase scheduled for July 1, 2002 <br />Caps premium increase at 10% <br />■ Board make -up will include greater consumer representation <br />Eligible windstorm pool areas will be re- evaluated and scientifically calculated <br />Rates can be challenged in court by the Insurance Commission. or State CFO <br />• Homeowner policies requiring windstorm will not automatically have mandated <br />flood coverage policies. <br />• Re- insurance protection for covered properties. <br />• Public hearings and public input on the rate formula. <br />Con]mittees: Colleges and Universities • Council for Healthy Communities • Council for Ready Infrastructure <br />Crime Prevention, Corrections & Safety a Tourism (Vice Chair) <br />
