purchase equipment for their crime watch meetings, including a display board and shredders to prevent
identification theft and credit card fraud.

Year Three Activities/Accomplishments & Unmet Needs (2001-2002)
Sunny Isles Beach Police Department's community policing unit, has provided over 39 hours of bike patrol; 5
community-wide drug free events; and 3 crime watch meetings to date. The department creative efforts included
assigning officers to local school bus stops, where they handed out flyers and did brief educational presentations
with officer Mc Gruff. This proved to be an effective way to get the attention of area youth. Other activities
included their first ever Bicycle Rodeo, that placed an emphasis on bike safety, and a city wide vin etching
program, held at a local park.

Year Four Goals and Obiectives (2002-2003)
In their fourth and final year, Sunny Isles would like to provide additional services to their residents. The
community policing unit will increase the number of drug free events community and crime watch services. In
addition, due to the increased popularity oftheir city, the police chief has decided to enhance police visibility
along their popular strip mall. To do this, they will use grant funds to purchase an electric car that will be used to
patrol the business district during peak hours. The electric car is an added tool used to get the attention of city
residents as well businesses and visitors.
