As you know I, along with the City Council. was very <br />pleased ',vith the results of your effort. I wanted to take the time to thank yeu for a job well done. <br />I-inwe\'t~r. and perhap~ more import.mt. I thought this woutd be an excellent time to bring you up <br />to date on what has b~en happening in the Department. <br /> <br />As you know. our new Chief, Gary Adams, arrived on May t 5. 2000. shortly before we received <br />your final report. Since his arrival. he has been busy. As of today, we have implemented, or <br />have started the process to implement. 64 of the 86 recommendations contained in your report. <br />All of the remainder are being planned for implementation, but may take longer just because of <br />the work or budget constraints involved. <br /> <br />In my 25 years working for cities. I do not recall this many recommendations being implemented <br />in such a short time. It is a testimony to not onty Chief Adam's efforts, but also to logic and <br />thoroughness of your study team's etfort, their expertise in this area, and the high quality of the <br />final product these qualities produced. <br /> <br />I am enclosing two items that I believe you will find of interest: <br /> <br />· The Department's New Mission Statement. <br />· A Citizen Complaint and Inquiry Fonn in both Spanish and English. <br /> <br />Also. I know you will be happy to learn that one of the Department's Lieutenants has been <br />assigned responsibility for coordinating the accreditation process.
