Russo, City Manager
DATE: May 15, 2003 C4,
RE: TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM FUNDING REQUEST
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution authorizing the City
Manager to apply for, receive, and expend funding from the Florida Department of
Transportation's Transportation Enhancement Program.
REASONS
The City has begun efforts to revitalize the Sunny Isles Boulevard/SR 826 area, the main
entrance corridor to the city. These efforts will include landscaping enhancements and
pedestrian and vehicular traffic calming measures. As these projects are costly, the City is
seeking grant funding from available sources.
The Florida Department of Transportation has grant funding available through its Transportation
Enhancement Program. These grants require a 50/50 match by the City. The City is requesting
One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00) in grant funding, with a 50% match by the City, for a total
of Two Million Dollars ($2,000,000.00).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is federal funding being sought for the reconstruction of Sunny Isles Boulevard/SR826 east
bound. It will greatly improve the main entrance to the City and spark major private
redevelopment of the corridor, forming the basis of the"Town Center"concept
CJR/pw
Edot-Tep Funding Agenda Memo
