Russo, City Manager Cit—
DATE: July 17,2003 VVV`
RE: FLORIDA RECREATION DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
GRANT APPLICATION FOR ACQUISITION OF PROPERTY IN GOLDEN
SHORES
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve a resolution authorizing the City Manager
to apply for, receive and expend monies from a Florida Recreation Development Assistance
Program("FRDAP") grant for the acquisition of park ptoperty in the Golden Shores area.
REASONS
Many months ago, residents of Golden Shores came to a Commission meeting and asked that we
pursue the open land around the park. As such, the City became interested in expanding the
Golden Shores Park so that we may be able to provide more amenities for our residents.
Adjacent/surrounding property sites were viewed and considered as possibilities.
The vacant lot at 215 191st Terrace is a property that met the needs of the City and would double
the size of the existing park. As such, the Commission approved a contract for sale and purchase
of the property. Now, a FRDAP grant is being sought to offset the cost of this purchase. A
FRDAP grant would reimburse the City in an amount of up to 50% of the appraised cost of the
property(which was$187,500.00), if awarded.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
All municipalities in the State are eligible to submit projects for FRDAP grant funding. Projects are
ranked according to their scoring, and eligible projects are then presented to the State Legislature for
funding.
CJR/pw
Fsdap-Golden Shorcs Pk Acquisition
