Russo, City Manager Q t
DATE: December 18, 2003
RE: RENEWAL OF CONTRACT WITH CITY LOBBYIST
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing a renewal
contract with Ronald L. Book, Esq. for professional legislative relations and lobbyist services.
REASONS
Mr. Book has proven himself to be very effective in the process of acquiring grants. Some of the
grants he has assisted the City in requesting/obtaining include $2,068,100 from MDC Safe
Neighborhood Parks Program for the acquisition of the Gilbert Samson Oceanfront Park,
$1,250,000 for stormwater improvements, and $250,000 from MDC Safe Neighborhood Parks
Program for acquisition of the Passive Park.
Mr. Book has submitted an agreement for professional services, in the amount of FiRy-Five
Thousand Dollars ($55,000.00) per year, plus expenses - the same rate since 2002. The contract
is for a period of one year, October 1, 2003 through September 30, 2004, with an option to
extend the agreement for an additional year at the mutual agreement of both parties.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Ron Book has lobbied on behalf of the City for the last five years, beginning in January 1998.
He has been successful in helping us secure large dollar amount grants at both the state and
county level. Mr. Book continues to keep us abreast of important legislative action that could
have an impact on the City and he has always made himself available to us.
CJR/pw
Book-Contract Renewal Agenda Memo
