Russo, City Manager CL
DATE: September 9, 2004 ll//
RE: CONTRIBUTION TO FLU'S BISCAYNE BAY SOCIETY PROJECT
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution renewing its
charitable contribution to Florida International University's Biscayne Bay Society ("Society")
for its Biscayne Bay Campus Project("Project").
REASONS
Last year, the City became a co-partner in the Society's Project to inform surrounding residents
of the many adult events taking place at the Biscayne Bay Campus. The goal is to bring
activities, such as specialized classes, lectures, speakers, etc. to that campus, for the enjoyment of
neighboring residents. The Society seeks a renewal of the City's Five Thousand Dollar
($5,000.00) contribution, which will provide for programming that we could not otherwise afford
or provide because of facility constraints.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Specifically, this co-partnership allows our residents to participate in the Second Tuesdays at
Biscayne Bay Program. This cultural events program consists of a series of events that will take
place from October 2004 to April 2005 on the second Tuesday of each month at the Biscayne
Bay Campus. It offers activities that are educational, rewarding, and stimulating at little or no
cost to participants.
Overall, this program will be beneficial to our residents and visitors, and it can be incorporated
into our existing Cultural Events Program.
CJR/pw
Agenda Item
FIU-2nd Tues Contribution Agenda Memo
Date
