Russo, City Manager
DATE: December 9, 2004
RE: $400,000 GRANT FOR CENTRAL ISLAND STORMWATER PROJECT
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution accepting a four
hundred thousand dollar($400,000.00) grant from the State.
REASONS
The existing drainage system in the Central Island is in disrepair and in need of immediate
replacement. It has poor levels of flood protection, mainly the result of low grades and poor
conveyance that impede positive drainage during a storm. The City is desirous of rectifying this
problem by replacing and repairing of the drainage system. This will benefit the residents and
businesses of the City
To offset the cost of this project, the City sought and has been awarded a four hundred thousand
dollar($400,000.00) from the State.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The City of Sunny Isles Beach Flood Mitigation Project was partially funded by the 2004/2005
State Legislature General Appropriation Act funds from the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection (FDEP) through Special Appropriation 2064A and by the South
Florida Water Management District's General Ad Valorem Funds. These funds are administered
through the District and dispersed and managed at the local level.
CJR/pw
C.nnai-S4 XJ,lvw s,onnaater Grant Agenda Memo Agenda Item RD I.
Date I2-09-0`1
