City Manager, City of Palm Bay (population 85,000): In July 2002, the City of Palm Bay (population 92,000) hired Colin Baenziger to find its next City Manager and asked that the search be completed in 60 days. We recruited and advertised for candidates, conducted background checks, selected the most qualified, recommended them for interview, coordinated the interview process and assisted in the contract negotiations. The finalists averaged seven years experience as a manager and were higWy qualified. Interviews took place 62 days after the contract award an<:f selection was made on the 64th day. Our contract was awarded on August 15, 2003 and the closing date for applications was September 26th. On November 3rd, the City Council selected Gregory Kisela, then an assistant city manager with the City of Fort Lauderdale, to be its next manager. CB&A was hired on November 18, 2004 and told the City wanted to hire by December 7, 2004. The City had already begun advertising with a closing date of November 22, 2004. Not impressed with the applications, we promptly recruited several more applicants, two of whom the City Council rated in their top three finalists after the interviews. The process was complicated by the Thanksgiving holiday.
