Edelcup
Date: December 8, 2005
Re: Resolution Supporting the Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Planning
Organization (MPO) Funding for the South Florida East Coast Corridor Transit
Analysis
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution supporting the
Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) funding for the South Florida
East Coast Corridor Transit Analysis.
REASONS:
The mayors and representatives from numerous cities, towns and villages in Miami-Dade
County, as well as County transportation officials, have joined together to form the Northeast
Miami Dade Mayors' Joint Task Force on Transportation ("Task Force") to address regional
transportation issues. Several workshops held by the Task Force have produced proposed
solutions and areas needing further discussion regarding many mutual problems and concerns.
The Task Force has asked the City of Sunny Isles Beach to join them in supporting the Miami-
Dade County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) funding for the South Florida East
Coast Corridor Transit Analysis. The Analysis is a 24-month study initiated in September 2005
to analyze the feasibility of rapid transit along the Florida East Coast Railroad corridor from
Jupiter to Downtown Miami.
Agenda Item 0
Date ^ d5
