<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2006- ~ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO <br />APPL Y FOR AND ACCEPT A MIAMI-DADE COUNTY METROPOLITAN <br />PLANNING ORGANIZATION (MPO) GRANT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY, <br />IN AN AMOUNT OF ONE MILLION DOLLARS ($1,000,000.00), IN ORDER <br />TO CONSTRUCT A PEDESTRIANIBICYCLE GREENWAY CONNECTOR <br />BRIDGE BETWEEN 172ND STREET AND 174TH STREET; AUTHORIZING <br />THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTION NECESSARY <br />WITH RESPECT TO THE OBTAINING AND DISTRIBUTION OF GRANT <br />MONIES, AS APPROPRIATE; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County's Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) provides <br />grants to governmental entities for transportation studies through the Unified Planning Work <br />Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City's Comprehensive Plan sets forth specific transportation goals for the <br />City to improve the safety and efficiency of roadway systems through transportation system <br />management techniques; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City adopted Resolution No. 2003-502 applying for a MPO Grant for a <br />transportation study for 172nd Street - 1741h Street in order to determine the feasibility and need for a <br />pedestrian/bicycle bridge; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City desires to construct a pedestrian/bicycle green way connector bridge <br />between 172nd Street and 1 74th Street; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, obtainment ofa MPO grant in the amount of$1 Million would assist the City <br />in offsetting the cost of the bridge of which is $ 1.5 Million, and the City would fund the remainder <br />$500,000.00; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is desirous of applying for grant money in the <br />amount of $1 ,000,000.00, for the bridge. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section I. Authority to Apply For, Accept and Expend Grant Funds. The City Manager is <br />authorized to apply for, accept and expend funds from an MPO grant, in an amount of <br />$1,000,000.00, for a pedestrian/bicycle greenway connector bridge between 172nd Street and 1741h <br />Street. <br /> <br />Section 2. Authorization of the City Manager.
