John Szerlag, City Manager

Derrick Arias, IT Director

September 21, 2006

T-Mobile contract for wireless communications services

Attached is an analysis of the City's current wireless communications plan with Cingular, and a
comparison of proposals that we solicited from the major providers.

In addition to the current services, we investigated the implementation of Blackberry devices within
the City. The Blackberry devices are cellular phones with built-in access to additional functionality,
such as access to City e-mail, contacts (name, address, and phone information), calendar (your
scheduled meetings, notes, etc). This would allow for better communications in emergency
situations, as well as a better overall level of service for our users. Since our original analysis, the
number of proposed Blackberry users has been increased to 28, which is reflected in the attached
agreement and order with T-Mobile.

Overall, we are projecting that the City will save several hundred dollars each month based on our
current plan's monthly average billing, even with the additional services we will be receiving via
Blackberry devices.

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt the Resolution.

FUNDING:

Funding for these services, for an amount not to exceed $55,000, has been budgeted in account 10-
559.5410 for fiscal year 2006-2007.

Agenda Item i 0 (-:::>
Date 9 - 21- D (.,
