John Szerlag, City Manager <br /> <br />FROM: Doug Haag, Assistant City Manager-Finance <br /> <br />DATE: April 19, 2007 <br /> <br />RE: Grant Funds - Florida Department of Transportation - Highway Beautification <br />Grant <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Approve the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to take the necessary steps to <br />apply for the above grant to begin the landscaping of Collins A venue. A separate memo will be <br />forthcoming regarding the landscape design services necessary for the grant application. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Florida Highway Beautification Council was created by the1987 Legislature. FDOT may <br />award up to a total of $3 million in grants to eligible applicants. No single grant can exceed 10% <br />of total available funds. The grant requires a 50% match on the part of the City of Sunny Isles <br />Beach - which is also $300,000. Of the match, up to 10%, or, $30,000, can consist of landscape <br />design services. The remainder must be comprised of the installation of the landscaping itself. <br /> <br />The timeline for the grant application process and funding, if approved, is as follows: <br />June 30, 2007 Meeting with FDOT, City and Landscape Architect <br />October 1, 2007 Application submitted to FDOT <br />July 1,2008 Grant funds are available <br />TBD Project start date <br />TBD Project end date <br /> <br />Funds are available in Account No. 20-600-5621. <br /> <br />Cover Memo FDOT Highway Beautification Grant.!)oc <br /> <br />Agenda Item \ 0 tJ <br />Date ~ - J q - D 1 <br />
