I __

1994

1996

City of Fort Myers

Don Paight

- - -- --
- -

The primary focus of this new structure is to serve the Harborside Convention
Center and the new U.S. Courthouse and Federal Office Building in downtown
Ft. Myers. An added component is the addition of retail shops on the ground
level with a space-frame lobby and a floating stairway, which acts as a
sculptural element. The lobby faces the downtown district, across from the
Federal Courthouse (also designed by Spillis Candela DMJM). Anchoring
the corner of First Street and Monroe Avenue, and as an additional design
element to increase facade interest, a giant screen has been incorporated into
the full facade for graphic displays. The north stair tower (facing Convention
Center) is designed as a glass tower which acts as a beacon in the downtown
area during evening hours.

Due to its central location between the Courthouse and the Harborside
Convention Center, the garage will serve performance/civic functions
during the evening and court-related functions during the day. With 6 levels,
approximately 600 cars will be accommodated. The parking garage has
been successfully designed within a diverse context containing historically
significant buildings as well as modern facilities.

$5.3 million

::

Spillis Candela & Partners, Inc. d/b/a
Spill is Candela DMJM

800 Douglas Entrance
North Tower, Second Floor
Cor~1 Gabl~ FL 33_1 ~4

AUTHORIZIED FOR LOCAL REPRODUCTION

=- :: It'..}. - -=',

::

::

(239) 332-6813

"',:,',_. ,":'S :; J .-c.

'lIllllll~"'""",,,,,,,
1~lllrlll ......
':l1.;9~~~ Ii
':llH"i1'J
",f" , ~~B'~~ II...
