John Szerlag, City Manager <br />Douglas Haag, Assistant City Manager-Finance O'M\Y <br /> <br />January 17,2008 <br /> <br />APPROVAL TO APPLY FOR, RECEIVE AND EXPEND FUNDS FROM <br />SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS (SNP) GRANT FOR REIMBURSEMENT <br />FOR PARK DEVELOPMENT AT SAMSON OCEANFRONT PARK IN THE <br />AMOUNT OF $30,000 <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Approve the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to take the necessary steps to <br />obtain Miami-Dade County grant funds for installation of artificial grass, playground equipment <br />and shade structure at Samson Oceanfront Park. The grant amount is $30,000 ($58,549 was <br />requested), The required matching funds requirement was encumbered in FY 2006/07 in account <br />10-572-5643 for Superior Park Systems in the total amount of$107,098.07. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Earlier this year Miami-Dade County announced the availability of $1.1 million in discretionary <br />funding for park development and $575,000 for land acquisition of public parks. The City <br />submitted an application for these funds on June 1, 2007 and received verbal approval on July <br />12, 2007, The appropriation was approved by the County Commission in December, 2007, and <br />they are now requesting supporting documentation in the form of proof of ownership, <br />authorizing resolution from the governing body, etc. The next step will be preparation of the <br />grant agreement by the County for approval and signature of the City.
