<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2008- tz. L-~ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING <br />A DONATION FROM THE UNITED AUTOMOBILE <br />INSURANCE COMPANY, IN THE AMOUNT OF FIVE <br />THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00), FOR THE PURPOSE <br />OF SPONSORING CHILDREN TO ATTEND THE CITY <br />SUMMER DAY CAMP PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING THE <br />CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO <br />EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach provides a summer day camp program for <br />school-aged children; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City charges a nominal fee for the summer day camp program, in order <br />to offset the costs of this valuable program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, to date the City has received some 30+ requests for financial assistance <br />from parents of children who would like to attend the summer program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is only through the generosity of benefactors that the City is able to offer <br />financial assistance for children to attend the summer camp program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, United Automobile Insurance Company, an insurance writer based in North <br />Miami Beach, has a long history of philanthropic endeavors; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, United Automobile Insurance Company's endeavors have assisted public <br />and private entities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, United Automobile Insurance Company has graciously offered a donation, <br />in the amount of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00), to the City summer camp program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this donation will be used to provide City summer camp scholarships to <br />children whose families cannot afford to send them to the summer camp program. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Approval of Acceptance. The City Commission hereby approves the acceptance <br />of a donation from United Automobile Insurance Company, in an amount of Five Thousand <br />Dollars ($5,000.00), for the purpose of sponsoring children to attend the City summer day camp <br />program. <br /> <br />Section 2. Authority of City Manager.
